Parents and Players,
Thank you all for helping to make such a great first week of lacrosse. The rest of the coaching staff and I had a blast working with the boys this week. Plenty to be proud of, even more to accomplish this coming week.
The online calendars for U15, JV and V should reflect our week two schedule (details below). A full season detailed schedule will also be available online by the end of the week. Thank you for your patience this week as we have worked to finalize everything, there is quite a bit that goes in to getting everything set.
Practice Times / Tennis Shoes: Practice times have been set on new staggered start times so that we can best utilize our field space and ensure that each team gets needed half-field space. Each team will be utilizing the track and grass mall space at Washburn for the first 30 minutes of practice so that we can make this happen. As a result, all players need to bring tennis / cross training shoes (no skate or boat shoes). Varsity and JV guys please note that we will be starting while the girls team is finishing. It is incredibly important that we respect their space. All players who wish to make either the JV or Varsity team should plan to attend JV / Varsity practice tomorrow. All U15 players not trying out for these teams should plan to attend the later session.
Added Scrimmages / U15 - JV Team Finalization: We were able to set-up an additional scrimmage against Saint Paul to make up for the one we missed this past weekend. The varsity team will play at Washburn. JV will play at McMurray in Saint Paul. A bus will take the boys over from Washburn at 3:45 p.m. and depart from McMurray at 6:15 p.m. Players who live in Saint Paul or whose school schedules prevent them from making the bus can arrange to travel on their own, all others are expected to ride the bus with their team. The JV scrimmages this Wednesday and Saturday will be used to help us evaluate and separate teams. Rosters for this Wednesdays scrimmages will be sent out on Tuesday and also communicated to players at practice. Players who are not trying out for JV or Varsity will have Wednesday off.
Saturday MN Meltdown Event: Our U15 and JV teams will be participating in the Homegrown Lacrosse Minnesota Meltdown Event this Saturday in Saint Paul. The event allows our boys to get in two scrimmages and also benefits Homegrown's inner city development initiatives (many of which run in MPLS). There will be a bus for the JV team departing Washburn at 6:45 a.m. U15 players will be expected to arrange their own travel to the fields for their games which are later in the day.
A.M. Training Opportunities: At the request of some of our upperclassmen leadership, Coach Kimura and Prokop have worked to put together a 60 minute morning training program that will run 1 to 2 days per week at Washburn from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. These sessions will include 25 minutes of weight room time designed to help players prevent injuries and maintain strength throughout the season as well as 35 minutes of on-field time where players will do high repetition skill work (shooting, passing, gb's etc.). The sessions are optional and will be led by Coach Prokop and I.
Please let me know if you have any questions or if there is anything else that I can help with.
Thanks again for the great week and enjoy the rest of your day off.
